The rich, organic soil mix is what makes this garden not need irrigation. Only a touch of water was needed in its first and second summer because we built up rich live soil about 14 inches tall. Seed heads from grasses and late bloomers like aster keep the bees and birds happy all year. Humming birds especially like the hardy ginger and cannas which look so tropical. A tiny stone path allows close up inspection and bunnies have made homes here, but that’s ok. There’s enough for everyone.
